Dear Colleagues,

As you’ve now learned the in-person DH2020 conference has officially been cancelled as a result of the global pandemic. We write to you today to share with you our gratitude for the work of the local organizers, Connie Crompton, Sarah Simpkin, Shawn Graham, and Brian Greenspan, as well as the DH2020 program committee.

Behind the scenes, over the last eighteen months, Connie, Shawn, Sarah, and Brian have been a joy to collaborate with. They have worked tirelessly to create what would have certainly been a positive conference experience and environment. Their commitment to a diverse, inclusive, and supportive event made our work as program chairs possible. They continue that labour now as they work through the logistics of conference cancellation.

The program committee has also undertaken a significant amount of work. The PC helped craft our call for papers, building on the proposed theme the local organizers submitted in their original application three years prior. Individual members read dozens of applications in order to vet and shape a strong peer-reviewed program. They worked collaboratively to ensure that applicants’ work was carefully and fairly considered and provided us as program chairs with vital information to aid in the final selection of the conference program. We would like to extend to each of the program committee members our thanks for their service on this committee.

Over the next few months, we will be working to release important information about DH2020 as it would have taken place. This will include information on acceptance rates, the peer review process, and recommendations as part of our reporting obligations. Our work will also support the local organizers as they continue their work to shut down the physical conference. The Conference Coordinating Committee of ADHO will be investigating the potential of a virtual conference in the future. All questions regarding the possible virtual conference can be sent to Diane Jakacki, chair of that committee.

We will post information to dh2020.adho.org as it becomes available. We wish to thank all applicants, peer reviewers, and members of all ADHO committees and SIGs who worked on DH2020. Your labor is valued and we are thankful for it.

Wishing you health and safety. We look forward to seeing you at a future digital humanities event.
